Everybody look at the pictures (cut and paste the link into a browser). The first pick was a bit small, but the second pic, Wow! Great idea to use paper for the ribbon as well, I hadn't thought of that.

You know, my family did the same thing. My parents didn't believe in Christmas when I was growing up; when I was six I demanded that we have Christmas and presents and a tree and pretend that there was a Santa. My parents, not believing in the consumerist culture surrounding Christmas, reluctantly built a tree out of triangles of cardboard from boxes they already had and covered it with green paper. Our presents were covered in newspaper - but it was wonderful.

A few years after that we started using wrapping paper and had a fake tree but we would preserve the wrapping paper, as you described in your post, until it was spent - after a couple of Christmases.

Now? I delight in wrapping presents. My family is spread out over the country and so normally the presents go in the mail to them and I assume they don't save the paper :) In case I wasn't clear, I absolutely LOVE wrapping presents :D I make little art projects out of each one - experimenting with using the paper in reverse, using it as ribbon, etc. Two examples of my presents from this year can be found at:

http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v167/150/99/631915093/n631915093_1899433_864.jpg
and

http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v167/150/99/631915093/n631915093_1899452_3708.jpg

Greetings of the Season :D
