Great post. My wife and I had been pondering this very thing recently.

So do you extend this to all dairy products or just milk? Why or why not?

I was advised (by someone who read it somewhere) that the cow's milk is easier for Blood Type A to drink. Blood Type O has trouble with cow's milk, at least after a certain age. I believe this information comes from Dr. D'Adamo's blood type diet book(s).

I drink rice milk, and noticed today that it's not very much more expensive than cow's milk: I saw a QT of store brand skim cow's milk for US$1.15, and a QT of store brand organic/enriched rice milk for US$1.39. (Mid-Atlantic East Coast United States.)

I read somewhere that cow's milk is difficult to digest for humans (too much protein), and that we're the only animal on the planet to drink another animal's milk. Not to mention all the lactose-intolerant people running around these days.

I'll all for giving it up as well, more so now that milk is becoming an ever-larger part of my weekly budget!

I like soy milk and also rice milk. Too bad they're so expensive. PS: Soy milk and rice milk should NOT be substituted into recipes on a 1-1 basis.

I'm lactose intolerant. Even if I was lactose tolerant, I wouldn't drink it. I don't like the taste of milk. Wasser ist besser.
