I take the money I would have spent on gifts and go somewhere warmer and relax in the sun with my book. I love driving past the mall in the months leading up to xmas watching the people shop like crazed consumers, grateful that I don't have to go inside to do battle with them. Going out of town helps friends and relatives understand that you really don't want to receive gifts. I just skip town for xmas. Donating my TIME. IE I volunteer as a gift. I have no out of pocket, the recipient get no extra junk/clutter and an orginization (and I chose one no one could object to) gets a great benefit. Then I get ignored for 24 hours while he beats, oh, say, Mass Effect.
