I too have a sit-on-ass-stare-at-monitor sort of job at the moment, and I don't eat breakfast or lunch either! Hurray for stable blood sugar levels!

I like the fact that you watch The Colbert Report, imho that is the only quality show on these days, besides the occasional Conan and of course The Office (it helps validate my current status as a cubicle drone).

@moneymonk - This is the true goal of education. Sitting still for that long is just not natural. But a truly educated person should be able to sit still for 16 hours at a time (looks good on the skill section of the resume .. maybe not). Also in time the ass would conform to the chair (I would leave that off the resume :-P haha)

@steve - possibly the pedaling could drive an alternator so I could save on electricity LOL.

@Ron - I tried getting up at 6 to study for a while but after two weeks of that I looked like a ghost. I also experimented with REM cycles by synchronizing my sleep so I would go from say 4 cycles to 3 and then to 2. IF you keep integer values you actually feel quite alert when waking up. But that's not a sustainable solution.

@Elizabeth - All that staring eventually made me near sighted (focus is very good at 2 feet thouh :-P ). I blame my first thesis for my loss of 20/20.

It's strangely fascinating to read about what other people do all day while they stare at their computer screens.

I'm currently spending about eight hours a day staring at my work computer, followed by an hour of staring at a book, followed by four more hours of staring at my home computer screen reading RSS feeds and trying to contribute to my own.

The not eating would kill me, though.

Naughty Jacob for not eating breakfast. I think you should at least have a cup of tea/coffee/milk before you ride off to work. Better for your system.

If I wrote down my schedule I would scare myself. It's one thing I'm working on, as I currently need more than 24 hours in the day!

Jacob needs a bike chair so that he can pedal while he computes, and distribute some of the weight off of his ass. ;-\

Great post and clearly you are a good writer. It is always interesting to see other peoples schedules (the voyeur in me I guess) and contrast it to my own.

I too find time is a precious commodity - I have a 2yr old that is very demanding of my time, so my lunches are spent doing blog management (wish I could be doing exercise then) and evenings are family time!

Cheers,
Andy
