Fair enough, I can't say that it's not in-line with the ERE concept. I wouldn't have even mentioned it if I didn't love the PF commentaries, which are excellent.

@Chef - Hehe, I'm continuously trying not to bring ERE too much into one direction e.g. making it a cooking blog, a book club blog, etc. Hopefully, it'll revert to the mean soon enough.

To me, biking seems well-fit to the blog theme: it's frugal, self-sufficient, ecological, and voluntarily simple vis-a-vis many other modes of transport. Due to the financial and health advantages of biking, ERE demonstrates how he will achieve and maintain an early, extreme retirement. (Lower health care liabilities down the line, and more capital saved to pay for the health care that he does need.)

No offense, but your blog has become a biking blog. I love reading your PF commentaries, but it's almost 50/50 lately with biking. Maybe try starting a biking blog...?

Depending on your HR and duration of exercise, you could target 3-400 calories per hour (more if you can handle it) for the very long rides. Bagels, granola bars, whatever. There's not enough in the Gatorade. Simple and some complex carbs. You're burning several hundred calories per hour. No rationale to cut out calories while exercising for this long.
