I've found that short showers like that are the most refreshing if you've just worked out. If you can time them to follow an early-morning workout that might help with motivation.

I agree, 60 gallons sounds a little high. I would go with a low flow shower head before I do the Navy shower. What would be nice is a shower head that can go from low flow to high flow. This way you could soap up with low flow and wash off with high flow.

Owning an RV (5th wheel to be exact) that we use for recreational purposes, we have found that we can make the 46 gallon tank last about 3 days with showers for two adults and other regular water usage (bathroom, sink, etc). I can make it 5 or 6 days if alone, but I use a lot less water for my showers.

This is a big change from our first camper which held 72 gallons and would still only last about 3 days.

Our water conservation methods have improved over the years by mostly learning how to utilize "navy" showers and washing many dishes at once rather than individually when needed.

For office worker why do you need to shower everyday? Most Japanese in the '60s don't have shower in the house and don't go to public bath every day. They live quite well and keep themselves clean in a crowded society.

I don't know if the condition changed.

When one does shower he should use room temp water instead of wholesome hot water. It works even better if the purpose is to wake up the body/mind.

Keep hair as short as possible. This applies to ladies as well.

Normal 10 minute (600 second) shower uses 60 gallons of water? 1 gallon every 10 seconds? That's a rather high flow. I don't think my flow is even half that. Still, cut back flow and turn down the temp on the water heater.

one advantage to Gym membership: I shower there every day...and turned my home hot water heater off! I turn it on for a few hours on Saturday to do dishes on saturday and shower on my day off. On Sunday I have plenty of hot water left for another shower. I never miss it during the week!

I hope your wife still gets a chance to take a nice long bath every so often! I'd be a grouchy grouchy woman without mine.

Great blog Jacob! It is a gret inspriation for us recovering consumers in the motivation before action stage.

Your choice of RV over boat is a smart one. I spent one sleepless night in a sailboat anchored off of a leeward shore in gale winds. My dream was to live on a boat one day but not after that.

As for the shower, every girlfriend I've ever had uses full blast, scalding hot water. I think it's some kind of disese they have but they blame it on the long hair.

You could refill the water bottle at the end of your shower while the water's still running. That way you'd only turn on the water exactly once per cycle.
