They have improved quite a bit since their relaunch. I took a plunge a little over a year ago and so far so good. Time will tell but I recommend giving Prosper another try.

On the flip side of things, i'm very leary of lending money through prosper. i love the concept but was burned when i lent out money a few years ago. i carefully selected 10 loans for about $50 each and took a range of credit scores (as an experiment).

Well, my experiment failed, i had to write off almost 80% of the loans including several with the highest credit ratings.

However, I have heard that since they relaunched that they have improved a bit.

@MB - Bummer, the fact that people can take out additional loans after doing the prosper loan or even make another prosper loan is a bit of a downer. One thing I would like to see in prosper are loans that are less than 3 years. Maybe 1 year loans. Maybe even payday loans.

@betsy - Aw, I was going to ask if I could borrow 5 bucks, but ... ;-)

Great Post!

#2 seems like a no-brainer, but I'm always amazed at how unprofessional some of the loan applications on Prosper look.

With regards to: “I also realize that borrowers might put themselves in a bind since it is only possible to carry one loan at a time.”

I don't know the precise requirements, but I do know that borrowers in good standing can now have multiple loans open at the same time. Prosper sent me an email "inviting" me to apply for a second loan. I'm kicking around the idea of using a second loan for further consolidation of credit card debt.
