“Growing Vegetables West of the Cascades: The Complete Guide to Natural Gardening” offers some counterpoints to “How to Grow More Megetables” and why one might not want to garden intensively. Not saying either one is right or wrong, just that they both have insights not covered in the other book and make a nice complement to each other.

I THINK I wrote a paper on Henry Adams in college! Since I don’t remember too much about the book (except for the Virgin/Dynamo concept), I’ve put it on my re-read list. Thanks for the reminder.

Will have to check out book on academic politics too–since I’ve done everything wrong over the last 30 years.

Thanks for the book list! I’m especially excited about ‘Growing More Vegetables.’ Not that I have a garden, but it’s good to think of what you’ll do with land BEFORE you acquire it. . .Really, I’m leaning more and more towards ‘growing my own’ in the future. I don’t know what the banks and the stock markets are thinking! At least I have some understanding of–and can perhaps imagine a certain amount of control over–veggies.
