Jacob...

I'd like to see you expand more on the 1st part of this post.

It has always amazed me the grief people bring into their lives.

That I've avoided much of it seems to be a result of living deliberately.

@OurTakeOnFreedom - It's highly likely that this is where I learned about it (I did read Gonzales' book within the past few years). I haven't done any climbing on my own.

How weird. I'm reading "Deep Survival" by Laurence Gonzales. Just finished a chapter on a group of climbers where the 'top guy fell' and the group couldn't self-arrest.

This is a great systems analysis paradigm. And your lead reminds me of why we attorneys never refer to traffic collisions as "accidents." Some intentional act by some person was the cause of the collision, and we hope that person has a really big policy limit. Moo hoo hah hah...

@hickchick - One spectacular fallout could be the complete elimination of a major crop (and all ecosystems associated with it).

So I take it you are not a fan of GMO's. What kind of spectacular fallout do you envision as a result of the current preoccupation with meddling with Mother Nature?

@steve - the metarules are typically what the the incentives/reward system inside the system result in.

Or, you could try messing with the rules systemically. Ask oneself: what are the metarules that govern whatever set of rules one is under (or comtemplating being under)?

Jacob, you made some great observation and this is a brilliant post. Like you said, the system is loaded with people who are conditioned the same way. With the same kind of growth/educational/cultural conditions, they invariably lose sight the same way through complete focus on the same hype, greed, and other emotional attachment. As a result, they lose the objective perspective to perceive problems, which leads to the eventual system break-down. And they'll do it again and history repeats itself until the collective mind is conditioned otherwise.

And I think you said it right, attention and awareness to the reality as is, not rules, not other abstract creation in the system, is the key.
