Congrats on the eHow. As for the blog, you can make blog revenues even if you stop posting. The majority of ad revenue, I believe, seems to come from search engine traffic, so if you have a popular post - as long as its searchable it will pull in traffic for you, and you can be paid for it. I wouldn't worry about the blog stream sustainability. Based on what I know it is very sustainable (and you can, of course, implement more than one ad stream on a site, for added diversification).

@Michael - I just ignore all these "review me if I review you" requests. eHow is diversified and permanent (insofar that the company and their fee structure is). A blog is specialized and more dependent on continued posting to drive traffic. I do suspect some of the income comes from simply being active on that site because each activity puts you at the top of the "aggregators". It is very similar with blogging. The main idea is to rely on google traffic, so good keywords and SEO writing is key.

Hi Jacob,

I've seen you post news of eHow a couple times now. After seeing this post I took the plunge and signed up. I whipped out three articles to start and plan to do a few more.

So far it seems to me like a bit of a cluster-f###. I'm not knocking it, just noticed a lot of folks looking to trade reviews and ratings. I've also noticed that my articles gotten zero traffic.

I'm not sure what I expected but my first impression is that I may be better off blogging and networking on FB and Twitter.

Compared to the other social media options how do you think eHow really stacks up in terms of traffic generation and networking. Do you think the revenue is coming from other author clicks and the cluster-f###ing?

Thanks
-Michael

Hi Jacob,

Just wanted to say that I'm really enjoying these e-how updates. I've tried hub pages and have about a dozen pages there but very little <$5 in earnings from them.

@Blogging Banks - eHow is just a proof of concept of other ways to cash streams. The problem with cash streams from blogs is that they only continue as long as one keeps posting. I do not think blogging is a good way to get to a point of needing to work less. I note that probloggers are working full hours and practically treating it like a business. In terms of not picking up "free money", I estimate I could make $300/month from this site which is not a big deal compared to my other streams.

The problem with ehow is that you have no say about anything that happens on the site. One day they might decide to delete most of your articles and you cannot do anything about it.

However with your own blog, you could make much more... Why you haven't put any ads on your blog is beyond me. Yet you clearly show your intent to make money blog through Ehow.. Jsut put in some adsense for 1 month and you would be very positively surprised.. ;-)

Jacob, that's great! I would love to see some of your articles on e-how . . .would you mind posting a couple of topics/titles for me to search? (maybe you already did, but I don't remember it!)

I find that your blog is pretty good in that you talk about things you know--and have some expertise. A lot of e-how is just 'bleh.' It would be interesting to see some of your work. . . I might be inspired to work up some of my own articles.

I love the way you compare your earnings to the returns from an investment. I'm such a wimp at investing (I've barely done anything, I know, bad). I'd be more willing to invest my time in e-how than my money in the stock market at this time!
