From previous experience she should have known it was served very hot and left it to cool some and secondly she was a complete idiot for trying to drive while holding it.

My 2 cents long after the fact.

Elements of this case include:
– coffee is served too hot to be consumed by any person
– McDonalds had had previous cases before, but refused to serve coffee colder
– woman was hospitalized for 8 days while undergoing skin grafting to repair the damage
– woman had two years of ongoing burn damage treatments
– woman originally sued for the difference between what medicare covered and what she was charged at the hospital
– The jury found the woman 20% at fault, and McDonalds 80% at fault
