Jacob,
    It is a confusion of semantics, language and culture here (at least for readers like me from that "mystical" Orient :-D :-P !).

For me the word mystic automatically implies:

siddha — advanced mystics;
siddha — perfected mystics;
siddha — mystic yogi;
siddha — mystic;
svatah?-siddha-jñana — self-illuminated perfect knowledge;

So the entire article was quite "mysti"fying for me, leave alone funny :-| Sorry, thought I had to express my say as well.

FYI, here's wikipedia entry on Siddha and a Mahasiddha.

That doesn't only happen in social science though. There are many examples of automatically generated papers getting accepted into computer science journals.

Here's one:

You know, in France, we get the mystics too, but there is also that interesting French intellectual tradition of deconstructing the hell out of everything until you begin to wonder what the definition of 'is' is. . .

The deconstructionist lens is often turned on science as well with some arguing that scientific theories are no better than religious beliefs.

Logic that doesn't take reality into account is as hard to reason with as mysticism.
