@ElizabethG - both your stories intrigue me and since I've been reading Jacob's blog it has really made me think about the "why"s in my life. I'll be sure to check yours out as well.

Kevin M,
Heh. There are many areas where Jacob and I seem to be completely opposite. For example, you will not find me biking a zillion miles or having fun with a compost barrel of worms.

But there have been times, since I started reading this blog several months ago, when I've said, hey, that sounds a lot like me... investing for dividends, interest in climate change. But it was the smoothie recipes that made me say OMG.

Julie, thanks, I will stop in from time to time to see if there are further questions.

Moneymonk, having a plan and saving a large portion of income was certainly key. It also helped that during grad school and my first job, my income was rather low so I learned to live on a limited budget. When my salary increased, it was easier to save a lot.

"In the final 3 years of working, when I knew I would not stay at the high salary job for too much longer, I was saving around 45% of my after tax income"

This is the crucial part. She plan in advance.

Most people say they want to retire early but yet don't excute on a plan. She did, good for her.

I don't mind working, however, I want enough cushion to leave a job, when things become unbearable. So that's why I save
