Too bad your hobby is expensive. I prefer to grappling fight, which could be done almost anywhere there is a partner.

"My first game happened in 85 degrees F in full gear. That was a killer for a guy who was used to play in cargo shorts and a t-shirt in an air-conditioned sports center. I was blown away by how some of the 200+lbs guys at 40+ year old guys managed to do so without dying. The trick is heat adaption and hydration. It takes some getting used to."

I've dealt with this, as have the guys I've played with. We've played indoor roller hockey when it was 5 degrees in the middle of January and we've played when it's 85 or above in the middle of June. It definitely takes some getting used to either way, but the heat is the worst. You pretty much have to start hydrating the day before you have a game so that you're not winded after your first shift.

If you are going to play hockey you can't worry about how your gloves smell. All hockey gear reaches a point where the smell never leaves. I've washed gear and it smells clean, then come back the next day and it stinks again without using it. Self-sustaining stench =[ don't fight it. Gloves in particular smell the worst. Try sniffing your hand after a game...

Nope, in fact I've spent only one hour on ice skates in my life. That was part of a recruitment effort to get me on the intramural ice hockey team, but since I was leaving within half a year I figured that I wouldn't learn enough to be "useful" in time.

(Ice skates have less longitudinal stability than inline skates. They are also faster.)

In honor of the Boston Bruins' win against Montreal last night I must ask: have you ever played ice hockey?
