I'm sometimes surprised by the largess of Freecycle offerers. A recent example :

Offer: Sony 65 inch 16:9 HDTV
...Ratio: 16:9 HDTV Compatible: Y Height: 59.7 inches Width: 60.7 inches Depth: 28.9 inches Weight: 299.8 pounds We just bought a 3D version and have no use for this one now. Perfect for Super Bowl!

Although I may not want or need some shirts, I like the concept of freecycling. The Internet and forums like this provides a lot of valuable information. Small changes can yield a lot!

DW-

Thank you very much for your response.
You and your husband have a most
helpful blog.

Actually, we have a 10 lb sheltie!
I think we have been overpaying for
the frontline! Advantage is 4-6$/monthly
dose cheaper and gets better reviews
on petmed's site, too.

I was not aware of the winter/summer
issues either, we do not have extreme
weather here (D.C. area), but I will
be sure to ask my vet about that too.

Thanks very much,

As I handle pretty much all the dog stuff, I get to respond to firefighter. I'm guessing by that price range you have a much larger dog than we do. Our pug is only 25-26 lbs, so his med are cheaper. we use advantage which is about $44/box at the vet and around $46 available at all pet stores. His heartworm is Heartguard Plus which is about $46/year. You might notice the box of advantage is only 4 doses but when we got his vaccinations at a mobile clinic at the pet store, they threw in two free with each box we purchased, so was a bit cheaper than the 12 would have been. Also depending on your climate, some vets tell you that you don't need it in mid summer (100 degrees) or winter (arctic chills). We also use 1-800-petsmeds and I've looked for a few things for him on google and found a few online shops that are cheaper or have sales.

Jacob,

As a fellow dog owner, I'm wondering
if you have any tips on finding
cheaper flea/tick, and heartworm
medications. I'm spending $200-250/yr
on Frontline and Interceptor, which
I'm told are essential by my vet.

My dog's health is very important to
myself and my wife, I'm just wondering
how you work this into your budget
or if you've found some secret generic
alternatives, because after all, that's
almost half a year of hockey, right?

Thanks for your time,
Keep up the good work,
FF

One of my favorite lines is "Best of all it was free" like when I get baseball tickets given to me. Freecycle sounds like a very worthwhile concept that I will check out.
