Sometimes a rip means the fabric is getting frail and will rip again soon. Definitely hem the sheet, but you might also want to keep your eye out for more.

"A stitch in time, saves nine". Heard that one all my life. Meaning: a small maintenance task/repair will prevent a major one later. OK, I didn't pay much attention to either.
My wife and I have sheets, etc that are ranging up to 40 years old. I can't find new sheets to my liking (too rough), so we repair the old ones when we can. Wife is good seamstress.
When I crawl into bed, I like old, worn smooth, very cool (even icy) bed sheets. I could not get any sleep on the new sheets we bought even though they are "Egyptian Thread" super double whammy laminated 300 thread count extreme quality hotel/resort quality perfections!!! Wife looks at me funny when I keep putting on our "old" ones.
I will campaign for repairing ours as long as I can have a vote.

I would have thought of #4, first. I started sewing my own clothes about a year ago. Love it. I seek out fabric remnants and have sewed both my husband and myself both winter flannel PJ's and cool summer bottoms. I also make my own handbags. Now, I'm starting to make pillow covers and curtains. Also, run my hubby's torn socks through the sewing machine to close up the open toe parts.

Pretty neat stuff.

Hi! I bought 5 sets of California King size sheets that look as if never even used once for $40 total & got a new mattress cover to boot.I got them from a lady on a local group who was saying she had too many sheet sets. These are high quality sheet sets. Two are flannel .I know people who take sheets when they get worn in the middle cut the sheet length wise & sew the two outer sides together to make a sheet that is like new, cause the sides don't usually get thin.I find your site useful & full of practical information.
