@PC - 1-2 months for me, based on previous experience. If you start from scratch (completely untrained), it's more like 1-2 years, also based on previous experience. The only intermediate goal I have is "better than last time".

@The Executioner - Well, other sports do not accomplish anything either except fun and health. The kind of weightlifting advocated here is the most effective that I know of it to build work capacity (strength-endurance); the one that is going to win "fights" whether it is in the rink or carrying thirty moving boxes up to the third floor. I have found again and again that I'm the last one to gas or run out of air and I credit these kinds of workouts for it. The closest task to this kind of workout is chopping wood, flipping tractor tires, or stacking sacks of corn.

I don't understand something. While I can comprehend why exercise would fit into an Early Retirement strategy (good health & lower health costs), I am surprised you are so enamored with weightlifting. This is as artificial an activity as there is. I applaud your efforts to commute by bicycle or pump your RV tires by hand, but lifting kettlebells doesn't result in anything productive. Isn't there some necessary task or chore which could simulate the exercise of the kettlebell?

How long do you think you'll get there? And how do you estimate the time it will take? I guess my question is how to set intermediate goals?

Is this a test to do a double snatch with two kettlebells simultaneously or is it an alternating deal or something? I'm not familiar with the terminology enough to figure out whether I could do this with my current equipment or not.
