in your response to @aquadump about celebrating special occasions, you mentioned giving "spontaneous" gifts - what are some examples of practical gifts you and DW exchange with each other?

@ Jacob: Got it. Sounds like a good way of maintaining the partnership without neglecting individual responsibility.

I use some kind of a cycling technique as well, alternating between phases of investing and phases of reducing debts (in addition to my usual dollar cost averaging and paying CC's monthly). Cycling seems more natural; it adheres better to working with bursts of energy and natural periods of rest for a given activity.

Curious how much your wife has taken on your own ERE beliefs, she must have already had many of them herself?

@Joey - We have one joint checking account, where we put all income (W2, 1099, realized capital gains, dividends, etc.). The rest is separate. It's essentially based on the idea of community property, which is in my opinion the most just way of arranging things, and making our internal tax calculations simple.

When describing separate savings accounts, do you and your wife keep fully separate bank accounts? I recall you stating at one point that you were FI, and that she was not.
