Becoming debt-free is the first step to building a better world. Financial independence is the second. Doing what YOU want is the third.

i will disagree a little bit with your theory. Education prepares mind in the same way exercise and practice helps prepare your body for a marathon. High school provides the basics and college takes you to a higher level. Sharpening critical thinking skills, writing, learning, etc may indicate that you are management material or just a professional. Although your first employer may use grades as a screening tool, it is what you do with your education in the workplace that determines success or failure.

The same points could be said of elemenatary and secondary education.

And about what counts in getting a job, I know a guy who 2 or 3 times got a job in a field where they were advertising "degree required." He's never been to college, but is so smart he was able to manipulate each interview so that he got hired.

Did really well, too. Finally left b/c he was sick of the rat race...that "education" prepares us for.

Your post has some truths if education is purely seen as a means toward obtaining money. Some of us like learning and pondering and stretching the mind and reading the poetry and understanding the science. Some of us wanted cultural capital, not just capital.

Damn Jacob.. and here I am trying to apply for University again, and you spring this post.

Having spent 4 years already at school, getting a degree I really hated at year 2.. I tought it was time for another one. Something I prefrebly could use in the work force..

(I allready have a job which pays great and leaves me with 7 months of free time, but its not a job I want to do the rest of my life..5-8 years max)

Living in "our" part of the world Jacob, gives me free access to the University if I have the grades to get in.. so it does not cost me a thing. But still.. Im not sure if Im ready to spend another 4 years getting a degree...

(Oh, heres the reason, Im secretly want to get a green card, come live in NH and enjoy a free life)

I loved the part about society rather wants to keep part of the workforce out of a job, instead of just lowering hours for everybody..

I think your G/W ratio is backwards. If I wanted to minimize the Gain per amount of Work I did, i think I would be a masochist.

G/W^(-1) is analogous to P/E... inverse.

Sorry for the nitpick, but it confused me at first.

No bet. Try visiting Japan. Their attitude towards education (and work in general!) is radically different. And the quality of *everything*-food, clothing, kitchen knives-is amazing.
